Indium and Vacuum Seals
We are going to use indium to make the vacuum seals on the SPARO
dewar in order to preserve the case vacuum in the antarctic cold.
There are a wide range of possibilities for the geometry of indium
seals. Seals can be made between two flats, between a flat and a
groove, or between a tooth and a groove. Furthermore, the geometry of
the groove can be rectangular or triangular. Below are links to
documents with information about indium seals.
- Notes I made on indium seals while
working at GSFC on the SPIRAC dewar.
- Bob Pernic's email on indium seals.
- Bibliography on indium seals
(by no means exhaustive)
- Jeff Sundwall's proposed seal
geometry.
